Council prepares to set new course for Kouga

Councillors and senior officials bunkered down at Humansdorp this week to set a new course for Kouga.

Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen said the three-day Strategic Planning Workshop was an opportunity for the new Council to review the Vision and Mission Statement of the municipality, as well as the values which all councillors and staff should strive to uphold.

“The workshop served as a basis for us to develop an action plan for the next five years, working towards where we want to see Kouga in the future,” she said.

“The focus has been on articulating our priorities clearly, taking stock of our resources, identifying ways to strengthen operations and ensuring that employees know exactly what the expectation is so that we all can work towards achieving common goals.”

The Mayor said that Kouga’s current situation cried for solutions.

“It is up to us to find answers, not only for the present but also for the future.

We need to prepare our region and our people for the opportunities which are bound to come this way,” she said.

The outcomes of the workshop will be tabled before a formal Council meeting for adoption.

The Vision and the Mission Statement will be formalised in the new Integrated Development Plan (IDP).

Community consultation meetings regarding the new IDP will start in November 2016.
