From the desk of Mayor Elza Van Lingen – 21 October 2016

It’s time for you to have your say

I call on all residents and stakeholders to actively participate in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) process.

The IDP is the principal strategic planning instrument of a municipality and forms the basis of the municipal budget.

Kouga Municipality has scheduled IDP public meetings in all 15 wards.

Make sure you have an input in the development of our Municipality by attending the meeting in your ward.

Please visit our website http://www.kouga.gov.za to find out the dates of all the meetings.

Strategic Planning for the road ahead

Together with the entire management team of the Kouga Municipality, and all our Councillors, we will be holding a 3 day strategic planning workshop next week.

We will be working on a new vision and mission statement for the Kouga Municipality, as well as defining our values and action plans for the next 5 years, which will in turn be reflected in our IDP and ultimately the budget of the Municipality.

Suppliers need to be on the Central Data Base

With effect from 1 July 2016, Municipalities have to make use of the Central Supplier Database (CSD) when procuring goods from suppliers.

I urge all suppliers wishing to do business with Kouga Municipality to register on the database, as well as the Kouga database which can be found via the Kouga Municipal website.

Installing electronic water meters

Kouga has water losses of over 40 % and we need to tackle the problem and find solutions.

An ageing and badly maintained water infrastructure, including faulty meters, as well as theft of water all contribute to the problem.

Part of the solution is to install smart water meters which can be read electronically and will have leak and manipulation detection capabilities.

We will be engaging with suppliers of this technology to find the best fit and solution for Kouga Municipality.

Regards

Elza
