The Democratic Alliance KouKamma will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Soweto uprising by gathering in Storms River on the 18th of June 2016.
The celebrations will take place on the Akkerlaan Sports field between 08:00 and 16:30.
DA Constituency Leader and Member of Parliament, Malcolm Figg, will be one of the keynote speakers.
Yolande Le Roux, DA Koukamma’s Mayoral Candidate will address the youth on the DA’s commitment to the development of the Koukamma Youth. She will also share the DA’s vision for the youth in Koukamma.
The event will be kicked – off with a “blue wave march” and all DA members, supporters and activists are invited to take part.
All ward candidates will also be present and the youth will have an opportunity to meet them and engage around the issues affecting youth in Koukamma.
Lee-Marque Jansen, this Youth Day Event Coordinator for DA KouKamma says, “As an organisation we believe in empowering young people. We advocate a youth agenda that develop and nurture future leaders that can set an example to South Africans.
We support the youth in creating opportunities to realise their immense potential and we note the circumstances in which our Youth are finding themselves in today.”

“DA KouKamma is providing this platform for young people to take part in and benefit from organisations such as NYDA, Love Life, ACTIVATE! Leadership and Public Innovation that can lead to their empowerment, emancipation and education” says DA Mayoral Candidate Yolande Le Roux.
“The day will be filled with youth activities including career and further study guidance. As creating a conducive environment for entrepreneurship is one of the areas that we will improve when the DA governs on 4th August 2016.
We are creating an opportunity at this event for our youth to sell their goods, no fee will be charged except for a R 53 which each vendor has to pay to Koukamma Municipality for their 1 day hawkers permit,” added Le Roux.
There will be fun and games for all ages, rugby matches as well as live performances by Jovandre Michaels, a talented local artist. Sound will be provided by DJ Kirsty B and DA Ward 5 Councillor and entertainer, Baker Smith.
Ms Ronel Tait, the well-known voice on Kouga FM area will be entertaining the crowd as Programme Director for this event.
Local businesses in Koukamma are invited to come and market their business and advertise any job / career opportunities for the Youth that they might have.
