Patensie residents have been without water for 11 days due to several water pipe bursts and broken pressure valves.
According to furious residents they were without water since September 5 and took the matter to their local DA ward councillor, Jan Joy three days later.
“The Democratic Alliance (DA) referred the matter directly to municipal manager Sydney Fadi, who explained that it was a burst pipe and that the matter was resolved,” says Joy.
“Since then the water was off most of the time and there has been little pressure. The workers claimed that another pipe had burst, and that they turned the water off for the reservoir to fill up first.”
Six days later, residents were still without water. Water was being carted into Verge-noeg and Noorshoek. According to Joy, the delay is due the Kouga Municipality waiting on a pressure valve from a service provider which is only due by September 16.
“The fact that residents can be left without water for 11 days is completely unacceptable,” says Joy. “It is unacceptable that it takes the municipality such a long time to establish the actual problem and then having to wait for delivery.
Efficient service delivery, especially as far as water is concerned, is a necessity. Water is life, and even sewerage systems cannot operate without it.
“Patensie has just gone through a major sewerage infrastructure upgrade, and simple problem identification and repair of such an elementary issue cannot be tolerated.”
