Parts of Hankey were without water for up to 5 days last week, affecting residents and businesses alike.
“The reservoir is still not full although the pumps have been fixed,” said Elza Van Lingen, the leader of the DA in Kouga.
‘What is concerning is that the Kouga Municipality knew that the water supply was going to be affected for the annual maintenance of the water canal in Hankey but they didn’t maintain the infrastructure that is needed during this time.”
The Municipality resorted to trucking in water to supply residents.
“A back up plan that works is needed for Hankey to ensure residents are never again without water for 5 days,” added Van Lingen.
