Following the May 7 general election the DA in the Eastern Cape increased its proportional representation in the Provincial Legislature from six to 10 members which is spectacular growth of 66%.
This is the biggest official opposition in the history of the Legislature in the Eastern Cape which will result in greater vibrancy, oversight and accountability in the House and in portfolio committees.
“I am confident that we will continue to bring greater leadership to the province on the key issues that affect our province as we build our platform as the alternative government, said Athol Trollip, the DA leader in the Eastern Cape.
“The DA is committed to making the province a place of rising opportunity for all. We are determined through our actions in the Legislature to give hope and inspiration to the people of the Eastern Cape that their lives can change for the better, added Trollip.
The DA caucus has elected Bobby Stevenson as Chief Whip and Edmund van Vuuren and Veliswa Mvenya as Whips. Ross Purdon is the new Caucus Chairperson.
