Refuse was not collected in Jeffreys Bay for four days last week because staff had downed tools. Management took up the matter with organised labour and the workers agreed to return to work while their grievances were being addressed.
As a result of the days they did not work, there has been a backlog.
“We were unable to clear the backlog this week since two of the refuse trucks had to go in for repairs,” said Laura-Leigh Randall from the Kouga Municipality.
“We have, however, been able to make an alternative arrangement.
The aim is to have the backlog cleared this weekend. We expect operations to be back on schedule by Tuesday.
Our apologies go to the community for the inconvenience. The management is also busy putting a long-term contingency plan together so that similar situations can be avoided in future,” added Randall.
