The IEC provided a small tent situated on an open piece of veld near the NG Kerk as the voting station for residents in Ward 8 (Wavecrest) to register last weekend.
“This was totally inadequate as there was insufficient room in the tent forcing the applicants to complete their documentation outside with no protection from the elements” said DA ward councillor David Aldendorff.
The strong winds made this particularly difficult and unpleasant. The IEC staff on duty worked cheerfully under very difficult circumstances and some 850 Wavecrest residents turned up and were registered over the week end.
“It is hoped the IEC will take note of this and ensure proper facilities are provided for at next years elections” added Aldendorff.
