Otto Williams, a former Mayor of Hankey will contest ward 9 (Hankey), while Desmond Pietersen will stand in Ward 5 (Humansdorp).

The candidates were introduced by DA Leader Athol Trollip at a business breakfast yesterday morning in Jeffreys Bay.

The IEC has announced that the bi-elections will be held on 27 November.

Unofficial polls conducted over the weekend indicate that the DA is in a very strong position to win both wards and thereby take control of the Kouga.

Residents in Hankey are sick and tired of the lack of service delivery and there has been a mass shift to the DA in some non traditional suburbs.

One angry resident said that the people will not be fooled by food parcels this election.

“They give us food parcels and then we don’t see them until they want us to vote for them (ANC) at the next election. We are not fools.” said the resident of Stofwolk in Hankey.
