The Gamtoos Irrigation Board is busy fixing the canal system that supplies water to Hankey. The repairs are expected to be completed late on Monday.
Until then, the Kouga municipality will be pumping water from the Klein River to the town. “We are going to be adding extra chlorine to the water but still recommend that people boil the water before drinking it. Water tankers will also be dispatched to the town, said spokesperson Laura Leigh Randall.
In addition to the radio and Facebook alerts, the municipality will be loud hailing and distributing notices across Hankey to warn residents of the situation.
