The Municipal Manager, Mr Fadi has placed an embargo on overtime in all departments in the Kouga Municipality and it is not known how long this is likely to continue.
Residents should be aware of this as it could result in delays should an emergency arise outside normal working hours, and it will be difficult for some services to catch up backlog of their work after the unofficial strike last week.

It is amazing that everyone – employees and residents – is now punished with the overtime issue, which is actually cause by the cash flow problems in the municipality due to the lack of financial management by the senior management of the municipality and the interference of politicians of the ruling party.
I propose we ask the MM to give guidelines of when an emergency is still classified as such and if overtime is payable for say the firebrigade working overtime to put a fire out? Or traffic officials working after hrs on a huge accident on the N2. A burst water pipe? Are we within the parametres of the labour laws?
