Councillor Brenton Williams was at the site meeting yesterday morning when municipal officials met with the contest organisers to finalise matters before the big event which starts next Saturday morning at 8 am.
“The surf contest has attracted some of the big names in South Africa surfing and for the first time the Surf Industry Cup will be up for grabs, with Billabong keen to defend their title”, said Williams.
“In addition there will be a skateboard competition as well as a sky diving exhibition so I would like to encourage everyone to come down to the Point next weekend and support the event.”
Being a passionate sports person himself, Councillor Williams will be organising an extreme ocean swim as part of the weekend’s events.
“On Saturday morning 20 invited swimmers will be swimming from Main Beach to Point to raise funds for the Supertubes Surfing Foundation. What will make the 3 km swim really extreme is that the swimmers will have to negotiate big swell and the rocks when finishing the swim at Point”, added Williams
